The Department for International Development (DFID) through Lafiya programme organized a one day sensitization workshop for traditional leaders on Covid – 19 infection and control in Jigawa state.
The programme that comprised the entire district heads from five emirates held yesterday at manpower development institute Dutse.
While speaking on the objectives of the workshop, the State Team Leader of Lafiya programme Dr Abdullahi Maiwada said, the objective of the workshop is to sensitize the traditional leaders on their basic role to play on fight against the spread of corona virus diseases in Jigawa state.
He explained that, traditional and religious leaders have a vital role to play in controlling and stopping the spread of the disease.
Dr Maiwada highlighted some basic roles of traditional leaders that include collaborating and providing enabling environment for technical personnel and report of any un usual sickness to the appropriate organisation.
According to him, traditional leaders are responsible for sensitizing the public on the dangers of covid-19 and organise prayer session for divine intervention.
While responding on behalf of traditional leaders in the state, the emir of Dutse Alhaji Nuhu Muhammad Sunusi who was represented by Galadiman Dutse Alhaji Basiru Muhammad Sunusi commended DFID and state government for organising the programme.
He then urged the participants to utilise the skills acquired during the workshop for a betterment of their communities and Jigawa at large.
