Katsina state Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Faruq Lawal Jobe has disclosed that the reintroduction of development levy and cattle tax will assist in improving security in the state.
Jobe made the disclosure yesterday while speaking at the opening ceremony of a public sensitization on the reintroduction of development levy and cattle tax in Katsina state.
He noted that in the past development levy and cattle tax made it possible for traditional leaders to know those living within their domain.
Jobe said the many economic challenges in the country has made it necessary for government to device ways generating revenue for development activities.
The commissioner added that they have gone round the 34 local governments of the state where they sought for people’s view on the reintroduction of the levy and the tax.
He further disclosed that the sensitization committee consist of all stakeholders from all sectors across the state.
In his remarks, Governor Aminu Bello Masari said now is the time to take top decisions to secure the future of coming generation.
He noted that the era of over dependance on oil money is gone, saying state like Katsina must look at post oil era and prepare for the future.
Also speaking, the emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman has pledged the support of traditional rulers to any government initiative that will make the state less dependant on oil revenue.
