From Nosa Akenzua, Asaba
The Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has described the sudden death of one of its members, Comrade Vincent Ogbunisi as colossal and unfortunate.
The Chairman of the Council, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Secretary, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, in a statement on Monday released in Asaba, described the deceased as a committed and dedicated member of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Ughelli.
The council stated that the loss of Ogbunisi had created a vacuum in the union, especially in the area of elderly advice to members of the union, saying his replacement would be hard to fill.
While paying tribute to the life and time of Ogbunisi, the council said that he was a fine journalist who wrote very well in uplifting journalism practice and demonstrated excellent sense of loyalty in good and bad times.
According to the statement, Ogbunusi sacrificed so much to journalism, even at the expense of his convenience and resources, having been a founding member of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Ughelli and served the chapel in several capacities.
While calling on journalists to emulate the good virtues of the late Vincent Ogbunisi, the council commiserated with the immediate family members and the Correspondents’ Chapel, Ughelli, saying they should see the irreparable loss as the will of God.
Late Vincent Ogbunisi reported for Urhobo Vanguard, freelanced for the Pointer Newspapers and was at different times, Ughelli Correspondents’ Chapel Credentials Committee Chairman and until his demise, the Chairman of the chapel’s Ethics and Disciplinary Committee.
