Delta govt tackles erosion menace in LGs

The Delta State Government on Monday said measures have been taken to ensure the aged-long erosion menace in eighteen local councils in the state were tackled, adding that the sum of N11.5million is to be spent on three star projects within Ralph Uwechue way via Ibori Golf course, and its environs.
Chief James Augoye, the State Commissioner for Works who spoke to journalists in Asaba, disclosed that all the projects as regards construction of storm water channels were fully committed to completing them on or before February, 2019.
He said that two reputable major contractors handling the projects, Setraco Nigeria, and CCECC a Chinese Conglomerate Construction Company in Nigeria, have demonstrated impressive commitment, capacity with the required modern sophisticated equipment, and technical experience to deliver according to specifications and contractual obligations that was sealed, signed, and delivered with Delta State Government.
The Commissioner however urged the general public especially Asaba and Okpanam residents to ignore the propaganda being peddled by enemies of Okowa-led administration that there was nothing good coming out from his administration, adding that: “ the storm water channel at Nnebisi that runs through DLA, Jesus Saves to Anwai River is about 80 percent completed, and as soon the surface discharge by the river end, the flooding experiencing for many years in Jesus Saves, DLA, and Agric road corridor, will be drastically reduced as storm water shall find its way effortlessly into River Niger, while that of DBS area through cabinet-Umeje Adudu way to Anwai river, is about 40 percent completed”.
Chief Augoye explained that the State Government shall do anything, and everything necessary to ensure that flooding in Asaba, Okpanam including 18 Local Government Areas do not exceed February 2019 and appealed to residents of the most affected areas to be patient, and co-operate with government and contractors so as to facilitate performance promise.
According to the Commissioner, the storm water channel in Ambassador Ralph Uweuchue through Ibori Golf course, was also receiving prime attention, adding that massive work was ongoing with a view to addressing the flooding.
