From Osakhare Erese Asaba
The Delta State Government has expressed concern at the perennial flooding in the state, especially Asaba and its environs occasioned by heavy rain, saying it has caused severe hardship to the residents of the state.
The government acknowledged the fact that household properties and other valuables had been lost to the flood but thanked God that no life had been lost.
In a statement endorsed by the Director of Information, Mr Paul Osahor, the state government sympathized with the plight of the people, stressing that government was working assiduously to ensure that the perennial flooding being faced by the people of the State was controlled and the hardship reduced to the barest minimum.
The statement said that the numerous storm water projects currently being executed by the state government were steps in the right direction and remained lasting solutions to tackle the issue of flooding especially in Asaba, when fully completed.
It said that government was also working out measures to tackle the issue of flooding in Warri, Effurun and other parts of the state.
While noting that residents of the state had a vital role to play in assisting the state government’s efforts in checking the menace of the flood, it called on them to desist from erecting illegal structures on natural water ways and dumping of waste in the drains.
The statement appealed to residents of the state to exercise patience as the state government was intensifying efforts to check the flood.
