Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa on Monday presented the first batch of 35 Nissan vans to security agencies in the state.
The Governor at the presentation thanked the security agencies for their untiring efforts in ensuring peace and security in the state.
He however, urged the security agencies to curtail the incursion of criminal elements among Fulani herdsmen in the state.
The Brigade Commander 63 Brigade Nigeria Army, Brig Gen. Ibrahim Jallo, Commissioner of Police Mohammed Inuwa Hafiz and the State Director of State Security Services (SSS) Ademola Adebiyi, received the vehicles on behalf of the security agencies.
In a brief remark, CP Hafiz thanked the Governor for the presentation and assured that the vehicles will be fully utilised and fully maintained
Meanwhile, worried by the increasing spate of attacks by arms bearing herdsmen in Communities in Delta North Senatorial District, traditional rulers at the weekend advocated a uniform Community Security outfit to effective Policing in the areas.
Rising from a Crucial Meeting of Delta North Traditional Rulers’ Forum which held at Owa Oyibu, the Monarchs Condemned in Strong terms the Unwholesome activities of Fulani herdsmen in rural areas, saying that the People will no longer tolerate such unprovoked attacks in any land in Anioma Nation
In a five point communiqué presented by the Chairman of the Forum and Obi of Owa , Dr Emmanuel Efeziomor 11, the Monarchs asked the arms bearing herdsmen to stay away from their lands in their own interests, adding” our People are no longer going to the farm for fear of either being attacked, Maimed , Killed, Kidnapped or raped and we are saying that enough is enough.”
The monarchs Warned that the peaceful disposition of Anioma people should not be misconstrued for either weakness or Cowardice insisting that any further attack on any part of Delta North would be met with disastrous consequences
They therefore resolved to immediately reactivate and reinvigorate the Vigilante groups in various Communities with a view to beefing up Security within the District and however Commended the state Governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for his swift response to flash points occasioned by threats posed by the activities of Fulani herdsmen in different parts of the state including Uvwhere Kingdom in Ughelli North, Abavo Kingdom in Ika South, Issele Azagba in Aniocha North and other flash points.
The monarchs also called for thorough screening and Profiling of Members of Vigilante groups and Okada riders to ensure that bad eggs were not recruited into the Community’s vigilante outfit and Called on Security agencies not to Compromise Security as that Could be Counterproductive.
