Following the call on the speaker House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee to honourably vacate his seat, a House of Rep candidate in 2011, Jagaba Adams Jagaba, has said that the move by the PDP to impeach the Speaker of the House from his position could not be possible, saying that such insistence would be hindered by certain factors.
Jagaba, who is a member from Kaduna state and spoke on the Hausa Service of the BBC monitored in Jos, said PDP members in the House would definitely face great challenges if it insisted on the move. Jagaba, who is a PDP member, noted that since the Nigerian Constitution didn’t provide that the Speaker of the house must be PDP, then there was no ground to insist that the Speaker must be impeached, adding that the members of the PDP in the house was not up to 2/3 to enable them remove the speaker.
He further reminded that even if such pressure was mounted on the House, there would be no time to appropriately deliberate on the matter. He added that as soon as the House resumed, it would discuss on the 2015 Budget, which according to him was on top priority in the next sitting.
He also noted that with the 2015 election around the corner, when the House returned from its break, election activities would again take the minds of members from dealing on impeachment saga, adding that it would be very difficult to actualise the said intention by the their party.
