From Mohammed Ibrahim, Kaduna

House of Representatives member, representing Kaduna North at the National Assembly, Samaila Suleiman yesterday advised All Progressives Congress APC National leaders not to succumb to intimidation and blackmail by the defection of some aggrieved members of the party.
According to him, those defecting are not true party members because they have never identified with the party.
The lawmaker, who stated this in a statement in Kaduna made available to newsmen, said the defection by the so called APC members was not new to Nigerian politics.
He said politicians join political parties with different motives, some not so clear, adding that only few stay back to promote the unity of their political parties when there are challenges.
“The hunger for absolute political power is the ideology and guiding principle of these class of politicians who given their political adventure, seem to be experts in creating unnecessary quarrels with party leadership and creating divisions in order to achieve their selfish goals,” he said.
The lawmaker also described politicians who are defecting from Kaduna APC as people who came into the party with the mindset of being superior to the state governor, Nasir El’rufai.
“They think they could use the so called defections to blackmail the party and the government in power. They have been APC members only in theory but in practical terms, they never identified themselves with the party since inauguration of the present government.
“Even at the National level, the APC has these set of people who wined and dined with the party leadership at night and hobnobbed with its enemies the next morning.
“President Buhari also tackled them in his own way by ensuring that they were unable to hijack the National Headquarters to feed their individual ambitions,” he said.
He therefore urged the party national leadership not to be deceived or blackmail by the defections because there are other millions of people willing to join the party.
“Keep mobilizing men and women of goodwill into our party, There could be millions out there who for the love of Buhari, Nasir El’rufai or Uba Sani maybe waiting anxiously for invitation to join the APC,” he said.
He said the party should not be distracted by piecemeal defections but to encourage more good people to come into the party.
According to him, so far the piecemeal defection has not in any way affected the strength of the party.
