As part of efforts to enhance farming, Gombe state Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has flagged off fertilizer distribution and sales to farmers to ensure food security and also to create job opportunities to teeming population.
The governor made this known in Gombe when he formally launched the 2018 cropping season saying that it has been his policy to support citizens who are engaged in farming activities.
According to him, during the flagging off of fertilizer distribution and sales of 2017, he pledged government commitment to distribute fertilizer sales to farmers earlier which he fulfilled his promise.
Dankwambo who was optimistic with the distribution of fertilizer sales to the people said his administration has procured over 160,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer since he assumed office in 2011.
He said agricultural inputs were sold to farmers at subsidized rates in order to improve productivity, noting that his government believes in increasing income, employment to farmers and to improve livelihood to citizens.
While speaking, the governor said no fewer than 10,000 metric tonnes of Urea along with substantial quality of NPK 20-10-10 Presidential Special Fertilizer Interception Programme was procured by the Gombe state government.
He said in order to boost the Agricultural sector, government has entered into partnership with AFCOTT Nigeria Limited for blending of NPK 20-10-10 at the Gombe blending plant.
Dankwambo assured not to relent on the effort to improve well-being of the people and urged farmers to take advantage of government’s huge spending in the agricultural sector.
According to him, government having considered the high cost of fertilizer in the market need to support farmers and decided to fix the price of fertilizer at rate of N4,900 for a bag of NPK, and N5,900 for a bag of Urea.
