Cormer Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), has donated a multi-million naira Information communication Technology (ICT) Edifice to Bayero University Kano.

The edifice, worth N253million, was commissioned by the retired General at the university’s new campus in Kano, yesterday.

Speaking at the event, the Abonta of Wukari, said that the gesture is in appreciation of the Honorary Degree conferred on him by the university few years ago.

He expressed his delight with the manner the institutions manage and the judicious use of the fund made available to establish the beautiful structure, noting that judicial management of fund is one of the major problems in the country.

The edifice is structured in five wings; with three departments, which include Department of Information Technology, Department of Software Engineering and Department of Computer Science, all furnished with the state-of-the-art equipment.

While commending the university’s authorities for giving him the opportunity to fund the project, as well as proper utilisation of fund, the Jarman Zazzau also called on other universities across the nation to emulate Bayero University, Kano.

He pledged to contribute towards establishment of the IT Park at the institution, as requested by the university authorities stating that “in developed countries, government and business communities are involved in establishment of IT Parks. I will join in the effort to establish the IT Park in this institution.”

According to the acting dean of the faculty, Dr. Bashir Shehu Galadanci, the faculty was established in 2011, after it was approved by the university’s senate, but fully took off during the 2013/2014 academic session.
