The Dangote Cement Plc has won the cement company of the year award from the just concluded Abuja Housing Show which was staged recently at the Musa Yaradua Centre, Abuja.
Dangote, according to citation by the organizers of the show, defeated its competitors owing to its recent stride in the cement sector as well as its quality cement grades.
The Housing Show reputed to be one of the biggest to be staged in the country was attended by about a hundred housing related companies in the country, where Dangote pavilion turned to Mecca of a sort as participants thronged the stand to make enquiries on its products and how they could enlist as distributors. Speaking, coordinator of the programme, Barrister Festus Adebayo said:
“Dangote emerged the Cement Company of the year because of its stride, huge investment and compliance with best practice in the past one year.”
Regional Director (Sales and Marketing) of the Dangote Cement Plc M. Jagdish received the award on behalf of the Dangote Cement Plc. A statement from the Dangote Group said the award will encourage the company to do more, adding that it would not comprise standard in terms of quality of cement which it rated the best in the country. The Abuja Housing Show is also the producer of the famous Housing Programme on African Independent Television (AIT). Dangote is the only company producing the superior 42.5R grade of cement in the country.
Worried by the continuing use of the low grade cement, SON had issued a directive that 52.5m be used for bridges, 42.5m should be used for casting of columns, beams, slabs and making blocks, while the low grade 32.5m was restricted to plastering Dangote has also embarked on massive training and sensitization of block makers in the country as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
