Damboa: NEMA distributes relief items to displaced residents

Following recent attacks on Damboa town and its environs in Borno State, by the insurgents, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the distribution of relief assistance to the displaced persons.

The North-East zonal information officer of NEMA, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, informed that the relief distribution follows a directive by the Director-General of the agency, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sani, to provide soccour to over 15, 204 persons that have fled their various communities due to the disaster.

He said: “The North East Zonal office NEMA has already deployed relief items to the neighbouring town of Biu where about 10, 204 of the displaced persons have fled and Maiduguri camp which has 3, 000 as well as Goniri, Yobe State with 2, 000. Some of the persons were said to be in camps and others living with relations in the host communities.”

Ibrahim said the agency had also dispatched a team of officials with extra relief items some areas including Uba in Borno and the neighboring Gombe state, following earlier insinuations that some displaced persons were seen migrating to those areas.

He informed that residents had fled from Damboa and environs including Kimba, Madaragrau, Mandafuma, Chikwar Kir, Bomburatai and Sabon Kwatta communities.

He explained that the relief materials being distributed were basic household items including plates, spoons, towels, cups, clothing, beddings, food items, blankets, mosquito nets and sanitary pads, adding that the present figure of displaced persons is an addition to over 149, 903 persons which NEMA has been attending to date.
