The Adamawa /Taraba Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NSC, has handed over seized goods to Internally Dislced Persons, IDPs, in Adamawa state.
This follows a directive of authorities of the Nigeria Customs Service,NSC that all seized smuggled items in to the country be given to IDPs camps
Area Comptroller of the Command, Comptroller Adetoye Francis handed over the seized smuggled food items, including; Bags of foreign rice and maize with cartoons of Cameroon washing soaps to the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) at the weekend in Yola.
Francis said the exercise was in compliance with the directive of Presidency Muhammadu Buhari to alleviate the sufferings of IDPs in the country.
The items comprised 1,648 bags of rice, seven bags of maize and 642 cartons of soap.
“The Comptroller General of Customs said I should hand over these items to you for onward distribution to IDPs in the state,” Francis said.
Receiving the items, the Executive Secretary of ADSEMA, Mr Haruna Furo, lauded the gesture and assured that the agency would ensure judicious distribution.
Furo said the agency would distribute the items to IDPs in the camps and returnees in the seven local government areas affected by insurgency in the state.
Furo also pledged to ensure judicious and equitable distribution to the intended target noting that it will go a long way in assisting them.
