Fresh crisis of confidence and its related activities over alleged neglect by management of Operating oil Companies in Warri North/ South Communities in Delta state have continued to unsettle its people who described their present situation as pathetic and inhuman.
While the aggrieved indigenes have petitioned the state Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Peter Mrakpor to prevail on the oil Companies’ management to stop neglecting its Cooperate Social responsibilities to their host Communities, the people through their Secretary, Evangelist Rocky Odeli , specifically mentioned as follows: Express Petroleum and Gas Coy, Conoco Philip Energy Nigeria Limited, adding that they have allegedly failed to recognize and deal with its host Itsekiri Communities.
The people are however demanding that the Delta state government should prevail on both oil Companies to enter into a Global Memorandum of Understanding ( GMoU) that will regulate the relationship between them and Companies, adding that there were enough evidence urging the Oil Companies to pay Compensation to some leaders of the Communities for masterminding their illegal arrest and detention in Kirikiri Prison in 2011 by Competent Court.
The people further appealed to the state government to call on Express Petroleum and Conoco Philips Energy to order, and honour its Six Points demand which include: annual scholarship awards to students of Delta host Communities, Community assisted projects, employment slot to all the Itsekiri Concerned Communities, including the payment of the balance of 50 percent of the Compensation sum awarded by the Court against the Company for illegal arrest of representatives of the Communities.
But the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Peter Mrakpor in a swift reaction said that the Oil Companies’ Management failed to respond to the petition against them from the aggrieved Itsekiri Oil Communities to explain the reason for not meeting with the MoU it entered with the People and commended the people for their maturity in their 23 years tussle with the Oil Companies without resorting to violence and assured them that the Delta state government was on top of the matter as all parties would be brought to round table discussion to resolve the intractable dispute.
