Crisis hits AAC, Sowore, 9 others suspended for anti-party activities

The National leadership of the African Action Congress (AAC) has suspended its national chairman and Presidential candidate in the February 23 Presidential election, Mr Omoyele Sowore, for engaging in alleged anti party activities.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) members of the AAC, while rising from an emergency meeting in in Abuja yesterday, immediately announced the appointment of Leonard Nzenwa, as its acting National Chairman.Others suspended along with Sowore are; the party’s National Youth Leader, Buhari Olanrewaju; Abimiku Anthony Kukumah; National Youth Deputy Coordinator, Sydney Usman; National Treasurer, Elam Rex lnalegu; National Treasurer and Ajtegbe Samuel Oluwafemi; National Chairman (South West)Others are; Ogunlana Rottmi Jacob Deputy National Chairman (South West); Deputy National Organising Secretary, Murtala Adamu; and Deputy National Youth Leader, Abdullahi Isa Mohammed.
A communique issued after the NEC meeting and presented to journalists by a member of the NEC, Mazi Okwe, reads in parts: “Accordingly, sequel to Article 52(k) of the Constitution of the Party, the NEC frowned at the failure of tile National chairman, Deputy National Chairman (Headquarters) and 8 other members of the NEC to hold, convene or summon the statutory quarterly meeting of the NEC, allowing illegal inflow of foreign funds into the Party and personally retaining same in contravention of Section 225 (3)(4) of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended), financial misappropriation of the party’s funds, abuse of the party Constitution and other act inimical to the political interest of the party.”In view of the above, the NEC invokes its power under Article 52(k) of the Constitution of the Party and resolves as follows:
*That Mr. Sowore Omoyele, the Sahara Reporters Publisher, is hereby suspended as the National Chairman of the African Action Congresa (AAC) for a period at 6 month beginning from 27” March, 2019; *That The Deputy National Chairman (Headquaners) and the other 8 members of the National Executive Committee listed above whose allegations of anti-party activities misappropriation of funds and allowing Inflow of foreign funds Into the Party and personally retaining same in contravemton of Section 225 (3)(4) of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended) were enablished and found wanting are hereby suspended from office”
The NEC unanimously resolved to refer the allegations of anti Party activities and removal from office of the now suspended national chairman to the National Convention which Is the highest organ to decide his fate in line with the constitution the Party It is also resolved that Mr. Leonard Nzenwa be appointed to be Acting National Chairman of the party pending the election of a substantive National Chairman.
