The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) in collaboration with West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme, (WAAPP) in Nigeria, has embarked on a sensitization campaign aimed at reducing the adverse effects on the usage of pesticides that are harmful to the environment.
Speaking at the event, the Director General CPC Mrs Dupe Atoki said inappropriate usage of pesticides may in the medium and long term contribute tremendously to environmental degradation
According to her, this proactive step taken by the council is to ensure the safety of every person and the sustainability of the environment saying that the preservation of the environment is a collective responsibility.
“As pesticides users, it is therefore expected that standard ones as approved by regulating agencies are used so as to avoid damage to health and environment”, she said.
She enjoined the participants and the general public to preserve the environment by adhering to safe usage of chemicals in their farms and abodes noting that this will reduce accidents and death as well as make the environment healthy.
