A leader in the community who does not want his name mentioned told Peoples Daily on phone that the attackers escaped.
“They escaped before the arrival of the security agents. So far we lost 9 people, 7 villagers who came to dare the rustlers and 2 owners of the cows,” he said.
According to him, solders have been deployed in the area to bring back law and other.
However, the Acting Chairman of the Local Government Council , Hon. Jonathan Asake, who spoke to newsmen yesterday in his office in Zonkwa, said he had a distressed call around 11pm yesterday and was informed that armed Fulani man and another unarmed accomplice, attacked Yangal, and that when he got there he saw the tragedy and helped in evacuating 5 corpses and 12 injured persons to St. Luis Hospital, Zonkwa, about 15 km from Yangal village.
The National President, Kamanton Development Association, KDA, Mr. Markus Fangan also told newsmen that it was a planned violence that defied logic, because, according to him, Yangal village had never had any brush with any Fulani since time immemorial, and wondered why the Fulani of Yangal evacuated the village before and after the attack.
“I reached Yangal village around 12:am this morning, and met scores of angry, sticks and knives wielding youths who wanted to descent on me for coming late. I was told that an old woman had passed on and was buried. That it was usual tradition for the grandchildren of the deceased to organise a small celebration to honour any person that had passed the age of 80.”
