Benue State Government has extended the COVID-19 partial lock down for another two (2) weeks.
Governor Samuel Ortom disclosed this yesterday after the State Executive Council meeting as well as an expanded meeting of the Action Response Committee on Coronavirus.
He also, announced the continuation of the curfew from 7 pm to 6am, maintaining that government will not rear on its oars in safe guarding the lives of the people.
He said the State will at this time, explore its comparative advantage as the Food Basket of the Nation and encourage all its citizens to go into massive cultivation of food, adding that a strategic committee headed by himself has been set up to actualize this.
“The committee will look at the entire agricultural value chain to ensure that there is enough food for the people as well as increase in the Internally Generated Revenue of the State. We are taking reactive steps to ensure compliance by the people.
“We will continue to appeal and advise them to comply with the measures put in ace by government because the State does not have the capacity for palliative measures in the event of a total lock down. We have also, in view of the current realities, reviewed our budget of 195 billion naira to 191 billion naira”,Oetom.said.
