The Acting Registrar Enviromental Health Officer’s Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON)Dr.Baba Yakubu Mohammed said the agency has enough manpower to handle preventive measures for Covid -19.
Mohammed made the assertion in Kuje Correctional Center in Kuje, Abuja yesterday, at the occasion to commemorate 2020 global hand washing day tagged; “hand hygiene for all”.
He said “If you look at what has happened today, it is very symbolic because this is the first time we are having a high level inter ministerial collaboration to look at one of the issues and key area of Covid-19 contentment”.
According to him,”hand washing has been preached even before the coming of Covid-19. But with the coming of Covid -19, this has become an eye opener.
Moreso, it has become symbolic for public places; schools, markets, homes and community levels to ensure preventive measures.
“Washing of hands has become a protocol and measure that are visible. We believe we have started well and with the level of awareness and commitment given at all government levels, we will sustain it even beyond Covid -19”.
Speaking about washing of hands, the acting registrar stated that “there must be a drivers and those drivers are the environmental practitioner at the grassroots.
“If there is any person who is so strategic, who has been doing the promotion and advocacy at high level by championing the campaign of hand washing with both water, sanitation and hygiene, it is the environmental health Officer.”
