Governor Aminu Bello Masari has lauded the National Lottery Fund for the provision of a standard COVID-19 isolation centre in Daura.
Masari was speaking during the commissioning and handing over of the isolation centre by the Minister for special Duties and inter governmental Affairs Senator George Akume at General Hospital in Daura.
The Governor also condemned the attitude of the people who ignore the social distancing order given by the government to curtail the spread of Covid-19 in the state.
Masari explained that the disease does not travel but is being carried by individuals from one place to the other.
He therefore restated that staying at home is in the best interest of everyone.
Some for whatever reason, he noted have doubts as to the existence of the virus.
He said if one has doubt, his neighbor has no doubt, which makes it a responsibility to protect the lives of our neighbors.
Masari lamented that the whole world is undergoing severe stress because of Covid-19, adding that those in doubt would continue to jeopardize the health well being of majority in the state.
On the lockdown in Daura, Governor Aminu Masari explained that the action was taken by government because the situation had reached community transmission of the virus.
He reminded violators of the stay at home order that government had the force, the capacity, the determination and the political will to make people to remain indoors.
But, he said they would continue to appeal to the people to please stay at home to stay safe from contracting the virus.
Masari also used the commissioning to remind the medical staff, especially those who are to manage the isolation centre to have the fear of God.
He said within the limited resources at the disposal of government, they would do the best to make sure that the isolation centre is properly maintained, even after the state must have gone through the pandemic.
He also appreciated the medical staff in the front line for the sacrifices being made to curtail the spread and treatment of victims of the virus.
Earlier in a remarks, the Minister of special Duties and inter governmental Affairs Senator George Akume said he was happy with the leadership of the lottery fund for providing the required resources to equip and upgrade the intensive care unit of Daura general hospital into a standard Covid-19 isolation centre to cater for the growing cases of Corona virus infections in Daura town.
Senator George Akume urge the national lottery fund to extend the intervention to other isolation centres in the country, adding that the fund should ensure monitoring and evaluation of the process to keep track of the utilization of the facility for the benefit of Nigerians.
In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Fund, Dr Bello Maigari who spoke at length on the potentials of lottery as a wealth generator and it’s impact on the growth of the economy said the isolation centre was established as part of the corporate social responsibility of the fund.
Dr Bello Maigari expressed the hope that the isolation centre would be utilized to curtail the spread of Covid-19 and offer other health benefits to Daura people.
