An Upper Area Court in Zuba, FCT, yesterday sentenced a wheelbarrow pusher, Babangida Aliyu, 18, to two months in prison for stealing two air condition condensers and one gas cylinder.
Aliyu who resides in Madalla, Niger State is arraigned on one count of theft.
The Presiding Judge, Malam Aminu Sa’ad sentenced Aliyu after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sa’ad, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N10, 000, and warned him to away from criminal behaviours.
“You have your whole life ahead of you. Why do you want to waste it in prison?
“The court gave you an option of fine because you are a first time offender, the next time you appear before me or any other court for any crime you will be sent to prison,’’ he warned.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Momoh Ibrahim had told the court that on April 17, Mr Arange Adomibo of Hansel filling station reported the theft at the Zuba Police Station.
Ibrahim said the convict went to the workshop of the complainant and stole the items, which were later recovered from him.
The prosecutor said the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
