In response to the presidential order of surrendering seized smuggled items to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, the Area Command of Adamawa/Taraba states have donated goods worth millions of Naira for onward distribution to displaced persons ii Adamawa state.
Presenting the materials to officials of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) at a ceremony in Yola , the Assistant Comptroller of Custom, Adamawa Command, Mr Bappa Usman, said the development was in compliance with the directives by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said that Buhari had directed the Comptroller-General of Customs to donate all perishable seized goods to IDPs in the North East.
He, however, advised smugglers in the area to have a change of mind about smuggling activities noting that the service is ever ready to chase them anywhere ,any time until they brought to justice as saboteurs of national economy.
Responding, the Executive Secretary of ADSEMA, Mallam Mohammed Suleiman lauded the initiative by the presidency and assured that the items would be given to those intended for.
Our correspondent reports that the confiscated smuggled items included ; foreign rice, vegetable oil, assorted drinks and second hand clothes.
