Court remands House of Assembly aspirant over attempted murder

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant to Edo state House of Assembly, Barrister Nosa Adams (51) was yesterday remanded in prison custody by an Egor magistrate court, bordering on alleged conspiracy to commit felony and attempted murder of three persons during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward congresses held last Saturday in Edo state ahead of next year’s elections.

The accused, who is aspiring to represent Egor constituency in the state House of Assembly, was remanded along with one Best Ukposisi (39) on four count charge of alleged conspiracy to commit felony and attempted murder of one Ikponmwosa Omoregbe (m), Victor Omotosor (m) and Eloghosa John (m).

Nosa Adams who was the former publicity secretary of the PDP in Edo state chapter.

The suspects were alleged to have shot at the three victims with pump action and cut to size guns at Aunty Maria primary and secondary school along Siluko road in Benin City during the last concluded PDP ward congresses.

The duo was alleged to have conspired with others now at large to commit the crime, which is punishable under sections 324 and 320 (1) of the criminal code cap 48, Volume 11 laws of the defunct Bendel state of Nigeria 1976 now applicable in Edo state.

Magistrate Igho Braimoh, who handed down the order on the duo to be remanded in Oko prison, declared that since the court has no jurisdiction to entertain the case it also has no jurisdiction to grant bail to the accused.

The presiding Magistrate adjourned the case to November 19 for mention, after directing the prosecutor and the court Registrar to make a copy of the case file available to Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
