Court grants bail to vagrant charged with joint act, theft

A Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Kado, FCT, on Wednesday granted bail to a vagrant, Zubairu Suleiman, 18, charged with joint act and theft.

The presiding judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N5,000 with one surety in like sum who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

He granted the bail after Suleiman pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Sadiq, however, adjourned the case until November 20 for further hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, told the court that A’ishatu Musa of Anthony Enahoro Street, Utako, Abuja, reported the matter at Utako Police Station on June 6.

Ibrahim said the accused and two others, now at large, as well as the complainant boarded the same taxi.

He said while in the taxi, the accused formed a common intention and stole the complainant’s cell phone valued at N6,500.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

“If the convict is found guilty, he will be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years or with fine or with both,’’ he said (NAN)
