From Umar Dankano, Yola
The embattled Chairman of Mubi North Local Government Area in Adamawa State, Alhaji Sahabo Jauro has narrowly escaped an impeachment move which has been lingering for over 4 month with the legislative council withdrawing their charges against him.
The development was disclosed by the councilors through their spokesman, Mr. Paul Samuel, who is also the Councilor representing Vimtim ward, during a press briefing in Yola yesterday, saying that they took the action on the interest of peace and development of the area which has just been recovered from the insurgents by the military.
It could be recalled that a 7 man panel led by Mr. Augustine Dabiya has on Friday 12th September, 2014 submitted its report to the legislative arm where at its sitting, Hon. Paul Simon of Vimtim ward moved a motion of adoption of the report which was seconded by Hon. Salihu Abubakar Lokuwa ward .
The councilors had raised 20 point allegations involving fraudulent diversion of funds, inflation of contracts, high handedness in conducting affairs of the local government and award of contracts without due process.
Investigation by our correspondent in Yola revealed that the complainant, Mubi North Local legislative council through its Chairman, Committee on Finance, Hon. Sahabo Bello, Councilor representing Digil ward at his appearance testified with financial documents indicting the former chairman who refused to appear before the investigative panel.
It further revealed that 9 councilors supported the impeachment saga at the emergency sitting; one councilor was absent but sent in apologies while one (councilor) was neutral before the leader Hon. Abdullahi Shaibu of Kolere ward pronounced the impeachment.
However Samuel, flanked by the remaining councilors tendered a notice signed by all the councilors directing their lawyer to withdraw the case filed in the Court of Appeal against the chairman.
Samuel said they had sat with the chairman and resolved to settle out of court.
The chairman had challenge the purported impeachment in a Yola High Court where it was declared null and void.
When contacted on the development, the chairman of Mubi North, Alhaji Sahabo Jauro, confirmed the development and said “we have resolved to work together”.
