The Kaduna Correctional Center yesterday was thrown into a stage of pandemonium as the inmates embarked on protest because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Controller of the Center, Mohammed Babangida said there was a protest against coronavirus but the situation has been brought under control.
He added that there is no need for any fear from the inmates because the center workers are working tirelessly to address the issues.
Babagida said they were able to put the situation under control with help of sister agencies.
According to him, there was no any casualty from the disturbance that occur within the center
There was gunshot sound within the area while present of various security agencies brought fears to the people within the area.”
He said that, there was a problem within the house and it has been addressed and all the inmate are now in their cells
While calling on all to remain calm, he said ,”the situation here is no different from what usually happen in other prisons across country. “
“And is not new ,so in the event that’s such happen people will get to know that it happened ,”he added.
“We call for support from other security agencies which you can see they are here,
“And they are giving us the necessary support in and around,” he said
As at the time of filling in this report ,there was a large presents of security personnel at the gate of the Central Correctional Center along Independence Way Kaduna.
It was reported that, inmates engaged prison officials fight insisting that they must be released to avoid being infected by the coronavirus.
