From Lawal Sa’idu Funtua, Katsina

The Coalition of Healthcare Professionals in Katsina State has commended the steps being taken by the Katsina State government to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to the state.
The coalition made its position known in a communiqué presented by the state chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Nafiu AbdulAzeez to newsmen in Katsina.
He noted that the stay-at-home order and the closure of the state’s borders will help safeguard residents of the state against the Coronavirus infection.
He also commended the formation of the public enlightenment and the emergency response committees to arrest the spread of the virus.
Dr. AbdulAzeez however observed that members of professional health associations were not involved in the committees which would have enriched the committees’ work with expert advice.
The coalitions advised the state government to use the Katsina City Mall building as a Covid-19 isolation centre for the state.
They observed that General Hospital Katsina and the Federal Medical Centre also in Katsina do not meet the World Health Organisation’s guidelines for a Covid-19 isolation centre as they entertain patients with other ailments, thereby exposing them to the virus.
