Community members in Gashua town of Bade local government area of Yobe state, who gathered to witness the foundation laying ceremony for the construction of the Gasua modern market were full of joy and appreciation for the concern shown to them by Governor Mai Mala Buni who approved the project.
Reasons for their joy was made more clear in the address of the state commissioner, ministry of commerce, industry and tourism, Hon.Mohammed Barma Shittima, who disclosed that Gashua town has been the capital of Bade local government for the past 44 years but could not boast of a befitting and standard market.
He said contract for the market, covering an area of about six hectares would contain an Agric area zonal office and Kara loading,a total of 505 shops of different sizes, administrative block, mosque, refuse bank, perimeter wall fencing, among others.
He said the project was awarded to Sabtech Towere’s Nigeria limited at a total cost of N2.4 billion with a 12 month completion period and has been given 30% down payment as mobilization fee.
He pointed out that when the market is completed, it would boost the economic activities of the local government and the state at large and would also generate more revenue as well as provide employment for the teaming populace.
