Some residents of Pegi community in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have lambasted the chairman of the area council, Hon. Ishaku Shaban Tete, over failure to deliver dividends of democracy for the people in the area.
Some of the inhabitants, who spoke with Peoples Daily in the Community, alleged that the current leadership of the council has failed to provide purposeful leadership, capable of satisfying the aspirations of the residents and others in the entire council.
A resident, Mr. Vincent John, accused the chairman of neglecting the community, in terms of provision of basic amenities.
He decried that since the chairman assumed office, he had not carried out any meaningful project in the area, calling on the council boss to focus on the development of the community.
Another resident, Mr. Galadima Pada, urged the chairman to repair some dilapidated roads across the community especially major link roads, so as to enable the residents have access to other towns or villages.
Pada who maintained that absence of electricity had worsened situation in the community, pleaded with the chairman to provide transformers for the community, in order to boost socio-economic development of the area.
Not left out, one of the traders in the community who identified herself as Mrs. Blessing Ogbonna, expressed dismay that the people of the community were being neglected in the area of potable drinking water.
She urged the chairman to construct boreholes to alleviate the suffering of the residents especially during the dry seasons.
She noted that some of the people who were living in Pegi community relocated to the community as a result of demolition exercise which took place during the former minister of the FCT, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El- Rufai.
Similarly, a farmer, Mr. Danladi Zafiwo, said that since the chairman took over the administration the affairs of the Council, the farmers have not been getting sufficient fertilizers to boost their activities in the area.
