Major oil producing communities in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State have petitioned Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki over alleged neglect in the composition of the state’s Board of Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission.
Their grievance was contained in a petition they filed through their lawyers, Aigbe & Aigbe Solicitors and addressed to governor Godwin Obaseki, said the exclusion of indigenes of Ugu Communities in ESOPADEC Board violated its extant laws.
Edo State House of Assembly had on Tuesday given the various nominees by the governor a clean bill of health, a development which has incensed some members of the communities.
The solicitor expressed concerned that the communities are the immediate recipient of the adverse effects of activities of the companies situated therein in the exploration and production of oil and gas.
According to the counsel, available statistics as released by DPR in 2016 showed that communities in Ugu ward produce oil and gas adding that whereas, “other communities produce only oil”.
