Col. Kontagora joins Niger PDP guber race, denies being anointed

Former military administrator of Kano and Benue states, Col. Aminu Isah Kontagora has declared his intention to contest for Niger State governorship ticket under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) denying being an Abuja or Minna candidate.

Isah Kontagora in a press briefing at Alovera Hotels in Minna at the weekend, said his declaration was for the victory of his party in the state adding that he will accept consensus if the elders of the party considered him because his emergence was structured on the elders and consensus will reduced struggle as it’s not a battle “mine is to uplift my party first before any other interest”.

He said been twice a military administrator, a loyal and dedicated PDP member and the chairman of elders forum, he was conversant with all kinds of government challenges and not new to government structure which is a continued process. Therefore, he remained the right aspirant to succeed Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State.

The aspirant stated that when voted into power will maintain the energy, momentum and cohesion of the good standard set by the present led PDP government in the state and ensure rural economic transformation to accelerate Niger State economy by the year 2020.

He reiterated his determination to consolidate on the present administration’s achievements in the areas of economy, health, education, security and social welfare of the people, create more job opportunities, improve agriculture, water supply, sports and electrification of rural areas as well manpower development, stressing that effort will be made to re orientate the citizenry on the challenges of modern economy in order to tackle the global economic crisis.

When voted in to power he said, he will establish modern green housing in each of the 3 senatorial zones of the state where youths can acquire skills on modern farming so as to have all year round green season, even as he called on the electorate to give him their votes come 2015 reiterating that politics is not a do or die affair as he urged his supporters to be peaceful and respect constituted authorities at all time.

Kontagora noted that Niger State has been one of the most peaceful and safest states of the federation mostly due to the effort of government on security, assuring to improve on the standard through reporting system and establishment of emergency centres.
