Super Falcons Assistant coach, Maureen Mmadu has called for the promotion of female football in Nigeria and indeed Africa.
The former Super Falcons player made the call in Akure on her arrival for the kick off of the 2019 Football Consults Pre-season Tournament holding in Akure, Ondo state capital.
Addressing the ladies who turned up in their hundreds, Coach Mmadu encouraged them to put in more efforts and passion in their quest adding that determination, hard work and discipline must be upheld at all times.
She advised them not to play with their education even as they pursue their football career.
“I am delighted to stand before you this evening to address you. Indeed, it is a privilege for me and I thank all of you for being here.
“Building career in football is not an easy thing but it is simple if you have the passion. But passion alone cannot take you to your stardom. You have to work hard, be determined and above all, be disciplined.
“These are key factors. Not everybody who desires to be a football professional ends up reaching that height but you should not be discouraged.
“I also want to advise you that as you are pursuing your football career, you should not abandon your education because there is life after your football career. Apart from your education, it is also advisable to learn professional work such as fashion designing, soap making and the rest. You should have a backup means of livelihood.
“I encourage you all to show commitment. I thank the organisers for this opportunity and hope we will enjoy the short moment will share here.
“Together, let’s promote women football in Nigeria and Africa. Women football in Nigeria and Africa will sure develop.
Thanks to Queens Football Consult Guateng and other relevant stakeholders in Nigeria who organised this Pre-season Tourney,” she concluded.
The tournament ended on Sunday with Bayelsa Queens emerging champions.
