The Inspector-General of Police, (IGP) Suleiman Abba said this year Christmas was hitch free as there was no record of activities of criminal elements.
Abba stated this yesterday in Abuja, while addressing newsmen at the Jabi Lake Resort, shortly after he patrolled round the FCT in company of the FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu.
The police Chief said he was grateful to God for the incident free celebration assuring Nigerians that his men will not relent in their effort to sustain the current situation.
He also confirmed that security agencies had continued to receive reports of intended attacks by insurgents, but added that the plans had been nipped in the bud.
“The Police, as well as, other agencies involved in law enforcement and security activities have beefed up operations to make sure that people enjoy the festivities.
“This is to make sure that people celebrate with some sense of safety in them. I am happy that quite a number of people are relaxed enjoying themselves.
Abba assured that the police and other security agencies would put in extra hours of duty to ensure Nigerians celebrate the Xmas and New Year in safety.
