Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Zhou Pingjian expressed his pleasure at the developmental projects executed by the Gaidam-led administration in the state saying the projects has much to commend them.
He made the commendation yesterday when he led a delegation of officials of the Chinese government in a courtesy visit to the state government at the government house in Damaturu, the state capital.
He said while coming into the state the ministered has shown him the new house, new projects being executed by Governor Ibrahim Gaidam “A the way, we have seen what has happened on the ground. The minister of state showed me the new houses, the new roads, and the new projects, a lot of progress have been made by this administration, it is commendable,” the ambassador said.
Earlier speaking, Hajiya Khadija Bukar Abba, the honourable minister of state for foreign affairs, who accompanied the ambassador on the visit, said the visit is to present relief materials donated by the Chinese government to assist the displaced persons made homeless by the Boko Haram insurgency in the state adding that the relief items would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the people.
While commended the Chinese government for the kind gesture, she stated that the gesture would further strengthen the good relationship between Nigerian and the People’s republic of China and also called on other philanthropists, good Samaritans, well-meaning Nigerians and others to emulate the Chinese government in assisting Yobe state government in its effort to bring assistance to the suffering IDPs in the state.
Responding, the state governor, Alh. Ibrahim Gaidam, represented at the occasion by his deputy, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, expressed appreciation for the visit of the ambassador and thanks to the government and good people of China over the noble and humanitarian gesture of making donations of food and non-food items to assist those displaced by Boko Haram insurgency in the state.
While summarizing the extent of damages done to the state by the insurgents, in terms of loss of lives and the destruction of public and private properties, and how the military finally defeated the insurgents, he said peace has finally returned and what awaits the state government presently, is how to reposition government institutions and enhancing the capacity of the public service.
Other areas of intervention, he said, is the provision of basic infrastructure like roads, health facilities, water and electricity
among others and thus called on the Chinese government to seek ways to assist the state government in its ongoing effort to reconstruct the destroyed structures and bring succor to the internally displaced persons, IDPs some of whom have returned to their original communities.
Items donated includes among others, bags of beans, Jerry cans of vegetable oil, Spaghetti, assorted beverages, sugar, soaps, and detergents.
