The New Nigeria Project, (NNP), has said that the charges against the Chairman/CEO of Air Peace airlines, Mr. Allen Onyema are irreconcilable with his person.
Addressing a press briefing in Abuja yesterday, National Coordinator for NNP, Alhaji Mohammed Danjuma said, “We are particular about the court of public opinion. Let’s not declare him guilty until the contrary is proved”.
Although relieved that no court in the United States has so far indicted Mr Onyema, Alhaji Danjuma said, “We are concerned because this is a company that employed more than 4000 Nigerians”.
He said that NNP was lending its voice to save the Air Peace Chairman because “We are concerned about the injury accruing to the image of Mr Onyema and his company which may affect it negatively”.
“Air Peace as a company is a brand which has not only brought pride to Nigerians but continues to provide our country with optimum aviation services, providing unique air travel experience to Nigerians and foreigners alike. This service further remains as a powerful contributor to our nation’s GDP as well as providing direct employment to over 4000 Nigerians”.
Recall that the Air Peace Chairman is facing a 27-count charge bothering on money laundering, three counts of bank fraud, three counts of credit application fraud, and two conspiracy charges in the United States.
Mr. Onyema has denied the allegations of bank fraud and money laundering to the tune of more than $20 million (N7.2 billion).
