Katsina state government in collaboration with a telecom company has launched the use of animal tracking technology to guard against cattle rustling in the state.
At the launch of the technolgy in Zakka town of Safana Local Government Area, Governor Aminu Bello Masari said the new device will minimise loses for livestock farmers.
He noted that it will make the state government’s amnesty programme for cattle rustlers more effective and will boost agricultural productivity in the state.
He said the state government will reach out to the national and state leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association to communicate to their members about the new animal tracking technology.
In his speech, Secretary to the state government, Dr. Mustafa Muhammad Inuwa urged pastoralists in the state to embrace the new technology to provide security for their livestock.
He said the state government will organise sensitization programs for pastoralists to enlighten them on the new technology.
Dr. Mustafa Inuwa explained that the animal tracking device is installed as a micro-chip under the animal skin to track the animal’s location at any given time.
