Candido presents N8.2bn budget proposal to AMAC Legislative Arm

The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), of the Federal Capital Territor (FCT), Abdullahi Adamu Candido has presented the Council’s 2019 Budget proposal, in the tune of N8.257, 881,086 billion to its legislative arm.
The total amount in the 2019 appropriation bill tagged: “Budget of Hope”, represents a nominal decrease of two per cent of the previous year’s budget estimates.
In the proposed budget, the Council allocated N4.1 billion for recurrent expenditure, representing 49.17 percent, with N4.2 billion for capital expenditure, representing 50.83 percent of the budget.
Also, the there is estimated personnel cost of N2.8 billion representing 33.51 percent, while the overhead was N1.29 billion, respectively.
Candido while laying the appropriation bill inside the AMAC Legislative Chambers, on Monday explained that the 2019 budget of hope was envisioned to be a budget hinged on consolidation of the gains and success stories imprinted for posterity.
The AMAC Chairman noted that the budget was a painstaking efforts of relevant stakeholders who had the masses and progress of the council at heart, adding that it would also captured the wishes of the people.
He added that the increase in personnel cost was mainly due to provision for staff promotion arrears, annual increment and possible recruitment of confidential secretaries and potential salary increase.
According to him, the AMAC Boss said the entire budget and planning have been predicted to give hope to electorate to deliver on campaign promises.
Furthermore, he said allocating 51 per cent of 2019 budget to capital projects was to demonstrate strong commitment to continue to develop infrastructure across the 12 wards of the council.
Candido also explained that the overhead cost has been decreased by 52.27 per cent as part of the government strategy to ensure delivery of value for money and eliminate wasteful expenditure.
The chairman also opined that the administration had begun payment for the completion of ongoing projects and to reconcile liabilities and settle legitimate claims.
He further revealed that the thrust of AMAC Capital Projects in 2019 will be completion of many ongoing projects over new ones.
“As responsible administration we decided that clearing backlog was an important priority.
“To consolidate on the momentum of 2018 budget implementation, many ongoing capital projects have been provided for in 2019 budget.
“This is in line with our commitment to appropriately fund all ongoing Capital projects to completion”, he stressed.
He, however, expressed hope that the council would expedite action accordingly, so as to commence implementation soon.
Earlier, the Speaker of the AMAC legislative council, Mr. Daniel Michael who revealed that the Council recorded 80-90% budget performance for the 2018 fiscal year, commended the the Candido-led AMAC executive arm for achieving the feat.
He therefore assured of the commitment of the legislative arm to expedite action on the proposed bill when they resume from their two weeks recess, to enable the Chairman assent it into law.
