The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Kaduna State branch has called on Nigeria youths to eschew violence in the forth coming elections and don’t lose their lives for any politician in the country, because such move is a worthless sacrifice.
Kaduna state Secretary- General of the Association, Reverend Sunday Ibrahin disclosed this in his remark at a one day youth sensitization and awareness campaign held in Kaduna yesterday.
The CAN secretary, sounded a note of warning to the youths by saying if they die today the politicians will continue with their politics and same people may defect to the party they fought against.
” it is time we let our youths know that any politician calling on them to engage in any form of violence is not only a wicked fellow but an enemy of God, because violence is not an attribute of the God we serve. Our God is God of peace and we are peace loving people.
“But if politicians insist that you our youth must be used for violence then let such politician or his children lead the battle, then you follow, but in a situation where a politician hide his family in Dubai, London, or New York and what have you, but stay here and keep beating the war drum, will not be tolerated by us as Christians.
“Let me also sound this warning, God forbid, if they have their way and turn the country into chaos it is the common youth like you that will suffer the casualties. Therefore say no to violence; say no to rigging; but say yes to one man one vote; use your card to effect change and not dagger,” he said.
In his own remarks Kaduna state Governor, Alhaji Murktar Ramallan Yero said his administration remains committed to maintaining peace in Kaduna State and will not allow anybody to hide under the auspices of politics to plunge the state into crisis.
Yero who was represented by the director of religion in the Bureau of Religious Affairs (Christian Matters), Mr. Barnabas Ali said security agents will be empowered to enable them to respond to any crisis because the State cannot afford to be thrown into another mayhem.
Also speaking, the Chairman Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission(INEC), Mrs. Hanatu Binyat commended CAN for bringing youth from the 23 local government areas in the State together under one roof to discuss on a sensitive issue like election violence.
She warned the gathering that what happened in 2011 must not repeat its self, adding that it is time the youth know that elections violence is a crime and not a right .
