From Umar Dankano, Yola

Nigerian youths have been advice not to allow themselves to be used for political thuggery in the February general elections in the country.

The advice was given by the coordinator, National Youths Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), Daniel Kadzai, yesterday where Coalition of Youths from various Christians denomination in Adamawa State gathered for a prayer and awareness seminar for peaceful elections.

Kadzai said the occasion was to create awareness among youths on the need to be careful against being used as thugs by politician, saying it has been on record that political violence is hatched by politicians using the teeming jobless youths.

He urged the youth to make sure that they participated in the election by voting according to their conscience, stressing that Nigeria as a country must get it right for the progress and development of the country.

“You must use your vote wisely by not selling it or allowing politicians to sway you through petty sentiments”, Kazai said, even as he tasked politicians against heating the polity by their utterances.

Also speaking, Pastor Naphtali Enwongulu, called for peaceful election, stressing the need for sustained prayers for God to see Nigeria through the election and challenges of insecurity.

Enwongulu task all stakeholders, particularly politicians, to play the game according to the rules and respect the people’s judgement, adding that power belongs to God.

He urged the people of Adamawa, particularly those affected by insurgency to have faith in God for succor and lasting peace.

Similarly the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started distribution of permanent voter cards to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the various camps in Yola, Adamawa State capital.

A visit by Peoples Daily to Damare IDP camps in Girei Local Government Area in the State showed the officials of INEC distributing the PVCs to IDPs who were lined up for collection.

Some of the IDPs interviewed, including Pius Bulus and Luka Yusuf, expressed delight over the development, saying it is a step taking towards the right direction considering the importance of the exercise.
