Africa’s football governing body, the Confederation if Africa Football, CAF has fixed a new date for draw.firnthe group stage of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations slated for January next year in Cameroon, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
In the latest development, CAF have stated that the draw will hold in the second week of August.
Although the actual date was not given, however, CAF’s scribe, Veron Mosengo-Omba told the media in Cameroon Tuesday that the institution will soon communicate a new date for the draw process.
Speaking to the local and international media in Cameron’s capital city of Yaoundé, the Congolese assured that the draw for the 24-nation tournament will be conducted in August.
CAF had initially scheduled the draw for June 25 but postponed it at short notice without setting a new date for the event. The CAF Secretary General assured the continent that the draw will eventually happen in Cameroon.
“We are here for a working session to achieve an unprecedented AFCON tournament. We are working on rescheduling the draw for the second week of August.”
Mr Veron leads a CAF delegation in Cameroon for preparations for next year’s AFCON tournament.
The CAF delegation and its affiliates for preparations tournament inaugurated the CAF temporal AFCON office in Yaoundé-Cameroon Tuesday before moving to the Olembe Stadium which is the last of 36 infrastructure that have been prepared for next year’s continental football showpiece.
The CAF team is expected to leave Cameroon on Wednesday and return to Cairo while preparations for the football jamboree continue in the central African nation.
Cameroon earlier this year successfully hosted the African Nations Championship with 16 teams present and CAF has repeatedly expressed their desire to have a more than ever before AFCON tournament in Cameroon.
