A two-time council chairmanship candidate for the Bwari Area Council and stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon Yahaya Isah, has resolved to move along with over 10,000 followers and members of Bwari chapter of the APC into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at the weekend, after he and hundreds of representatives of various support organisations under the APC, in Bwari, signed a joint letter of defection to the PDP, the Chieftain said the move followed a meeting where the stakeholders met and resolved to collectively dump the APC for the ruling PDP.
Yahaya, who was a two time-member of the board of Trustees of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the FCT and national level, said he and representatives of support groups under the APC have unanimously agreed they should move together into the PDP from the opposition party (APC) with immediate effect.
“We are moving not less than ten thousand and above supporters in Bwari chapter of the APC into the PDP, and we would formally be received by the PDP in a very short time.
“It is a moment of joy; it is a moment of hope; and it is a moment of faith. And since people believe that hope is ahead, we cannot therefore remain where the prospect is blurring. So that’s why we have all agreed to move on to a better platform.
“The decision to leave APC for PDP it is not that of Yahaya , as I have not said word on it, but hundreds of people, who are representing thousands of people-from Bwari and other parts of the FCT have agreed to dump the APC for PDP. We believe that we are moving for a hope based on principle and the essence of development.
“We need to go where we can give our contribution and our own quota for the development of this country. There could be something lacking now, but I believe that people have certain wisdom, knowledge and experience, which if given the opportunity, they will give their quota to the betterment and development of this country,” he stressed.
Similarly, in their separate remarks, Chairman, Izu- Umunne Ndi-Igbo, Hon Cosmos Chukwuemeka Odo, and a South -south leader of the APC in Bwari, Joseph Izunya, who described the decision to abandon the APC as a memorable one for them, said they have been in opposition since 1998 till date, but they have just taken another dimension in their political sojourn in the FCT.
Reacting to the development, the S. A Media and Publicity to the Bwari area council Chairman, Isaku Abubakar, who represented his boss at the occasion, described the move as a big plus to the PDP, as Yahaya is a powerhouse in political affairs of Bwari and FCT at large.
He said the PDP’s leadership in the council would meet and fix a date when to properly and formally welcome the decampees into its fold, assuring them of the council’s readiness to work together towards the progress of area.
