Buhari praises Matawalle over peace initiative

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended Governor Bello Muhammad for the total return of peace to Zamfara State been witnessed within short period of time just as the Federal University, Gusau also honoured the Governor with a Special Award of Excellence.
President Buhari who spoke yesterday at the maiden convocation ceremony of the Federal University Gusau through Professor Hafiz Abubakar also, said the situation in Zamfara is worth emulating by other states which actually face similar challenges.
The President said, the Zamfara state government’s efforts in restoration of peace and tranquility will not only help to facilitate both teaching and learning environment for the university to progress but, will encourage the improvement of good living for the teeming citizens and economic sector in the state.
The Chancellor of the University, his royal highness, Ezeogu Ewa Elechi who was just inaugurated at the occasion, has also commended the Zamfara State Government for being a good and hospitable host to the University.
Similarly, the Vice- Chancellor of the University, Professor Magaji Garba, said that only God can reward the Governor for his immense support to the University.
The University celebrated its maiden combined convocation for 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 academic sessions. It was attended by dignitaries including the Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle.
The University as according to the Vice Chancellor has celebrated its maiden graduation ceremony with 794 pioneer students who graduated from six faculties of sciences and humanities, out of whom 12 are passing out with first class results, 258 with 2-1, and 224 with 2-2.
He further said that, there has not been a student whose performance was recorded below the prescribed 2.5 grade cumulative point average.
Professor Garba further explained that, only three students will be withdrawn due to their poor performance as according to the record of the university.
The vice Chancellor further disclosed that parts of the activities which will commence on Saturday we’re the commissioning of some projects and offers of certificates of appreciation to some recognized personalities who distinguished themselves in rendering assistance for the development of the University.
Among those were honored with awards include the former governor of the state Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, a politician and renowned philanthropist, Alhaji Dauda Lawal Dare, among others, while postmothus awards were also given to the late Mallam Yahaya Gusau and the late Umaru Ali Shinkafi ‘’Marafan Sokoto’’.
