Chief (Dr) Wasiu Tunwase

Chief (Dr) Wasiu Tunwase is the APC Vice- chairman South –west in the FCT and also Otunba of Yoruba Community in the FCT. In this interview with Usman Shuaibu. He spoke on the state of the nation and his Sallah message to Nigerians. Excerpts:

What is your Sallah message to Nigerians ?

My Sallah message to my muslim brothers is that they should live in peace with one another. We thanked almighty God to leave us alive to see today. My Sallah message goes to Yoruba people living in Abuja and Nigeria at large.

How will you describe the attitudes of the government towards the security situation in this Sallah celebration?
We thanked Nigerian government for the necessary arrangements in place to checkmate the activities of insurgents such as Boko haram, kidnappers and herdsmen during this Sallah. We are also thanking the government for providing enough security to Nigerians in this Sallah. So, we are appealing to Nigeria government to provide more security for the safety of Nigerians. This year’s Sallah was celebrated in the atmosphere of peace throughout the country. On this note, we thank the government for her efforts. We also happy with government for providing the necessary arrangements for the people who travelled to Mecca.

You can see that the youths in the country are roaming about without jobs. Now what would be your appeal to the Federal Government?
My appeal to Nigerian government is to create more job for the youths. I’m calling on the incoming ministers to provide jobs for their people, so that they cannot engage themselves in violence or criminality.

What is your comment(s) on Buhari- Osinbajo government?
In fact, Buhari-Osinbajo government is doing well in terms of projects. During the PDP administration projects were abandoned, but the APC government carried out tangible projects across the country. With the coming of Buhari-Osinbajo administration alot of structures had been put in place. In fact, if this government continues like this automatically we would achieve our goals. We thanked God to be alive to see what has been happening in Buhari’s administration.

What would be your advice for the APC leaders?
My advice for the APC leaders is that they should try as much as possible to carry the people along. And also they should reform the party for the benefit of Nigerians so that ABCD should have a place to belong to. What I meant by ABCD is that the APC leaders should impact positively on the lives of the people. That is to say if Mr. President is eating Amalla, let the Vice President should also eat Amalla, because every citizen of Nigeria has equal rights.

What is your message to Nigerian youths?
My message to the youths is that they should continue to be supportive to Buhari’s administration. Also I call on the Yoruba youths to support the government of the day as they have been doing. In fact, Yorubas in Ikwa ward of Gwagwalada Area Council voted for Buhari massively and other APC candidates during the past and 2019 general elections. Buhari-Osinbajo got 60% of our votes in Ikwa ward.

You are the Vice –Chairman of the APC South West in the FCT.What will you tell the young politicians in Nigeria?
My advice for the young politicians in the FCT and the nation at large is that they should shun politics of bitterness, because politics is not a do-or-die affair. So if you are voted in to power do your best and leave the rest for God. I strongly warned politicians against political violence.

What are your words of advice for the Obas of Yorubas?
The Obas of Yorubas in the FCT and the country as a whole is that they should love one another because Yoruba is one indivisible entity. So, the Obas of Yorubas should allow the love to dominate their heart always.
