President Muhammadu Buhari has sent sincere condolences to family, friends and the government of Borno State over the death in Abuja of Hajiya Halitta Aliyu.
Hajiya Aliyu will be most remembered for allowing her photograph to be used as an illustration on how the Buhari administration’s exceptional human development appeal touched many retirees and pensioners in the country.
As a firm supporter of the administration, the retiree readily and proudly identified with the good intentions and actions of this government which ended piles of unpaid pension and gratuity liabilities owed federal workers.
President Buhari described the deceased as ‘’a consummate public servant who left behind a track record of excellence wherever she served.”
The President noted that the late Aliyu demonstrated that hard working women can break any glass ceiling once they were given equal opportunities.
“She won many awards of excellence, including the National Merit Award because of her dedication to service and commitment to her career,” he said.
The President prayed God to forgive the soul of the deceased, grant her eternal rest and reward her good deeds with paradise.
Born in 1954 in Maiduguri, Borno State, Hajiya Halita was a consummate Civil Servant, Technocrat and an Administrator.
Better known as a retired top level management staff of the now defunct Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), Hajiya Halita also worked at top management levels of various public and private institutions.
Hajiya Halita was the Establishment Officer and Assistant Registrar of Usmanu Danfodio University (UDU), Sokoto and Member, University Council, Finance and General Purposes Committee of the same University at different times.
As Corporate player, she held the positions of Senior Manager, Personnel, NITEL (1985), and General Manager, Personnel, Training and Manpower Development, NITEL (1989- 1996).
She was also one of the founding Directors of AKKLAIMA Telocoms in 1996 and Director/ CEO of the Telecoms company.
She once served as Member, Board of Mobile Telecommunications Services and Member Steering Committee on Pensions Reform in Nigeria, at various times.
As a recognition of her distinct stewardships, Hajiya Halita was a recipient of various Awards and recognition, including Administrative Staff Training Award from Inter- University for Higher Education in Overseas (1979), National Productivity Merit Award for Distinguished Career in Public Service (1991) and Manager of the Year Award by NITEL (1990 and (1991).
She was also the recipient of Queen Amina Award Excellence from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in 1994 and Corporate Achievers Gold Award in 2001.
She attended Central Primary School in Maiduguri, Government Girls’ Secondary School, Maiduguri between 1967 and 1971, School of Basic Studies, Zaria (1972 – 1973) and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria between 1973 and 1966.
She was buried in Abuja after prayers for the repose of her at the National Mosque.
