President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met behind closed doors with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Bukola Saraki and four of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors at the State House, Abuja.
The APC governors at the meeting included Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, Aminu Masari of Katsina, Abdul aziz Yari of Zamfara and Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ekiti Governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, also attended the meeting which lasted for about 45 minutes.
When asked the purpose and outcome of the meeting, Mr. Saraki and the governors declined comments.
However, our State House Correspondent reports that although the agenda of the meeting was not disclosed to the press, there are however indications that it may not be unconnected with the latest request made by the President for the lawmakers to approve the sum of N242 billion for the 2019 general election.
In a letter, which was read at plenary on Tuesday by the Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki, President Buhari asked the National Assembly to remove a total of N228 billion as reinstatement from the ‘padded ‘ N578 billion in the 2018 budget to fund critical projects.
According to the President, the N228 billion is for “relocating some of the funds appropriated for the new projects which were inserted into the 2018 budget proposal totaling N578 billion to cover the sum of N228 billion required.”
