Tens of thousands of admirers of the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), yesterday brought commercial activities to a halt in the ancient city, as all roads leading to Sani Abacha Stadium Kofar Mata the venue of the rally were blocked for more than six hours.

Buhari, who was accompanied by his running mate, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, former governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and other party bigwigs, arrived Mallam Aminu Kano airport at about 10:00 a.m and were received by the Kano State governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his entourage.

On arrival, the presidential candidate and his entourage were ferried out of the airport in the government house bus where he stretched out from its sunroof to acknowledge cheers from the mammoth crowd.

From airport, the APC’s presidential flag bearer advanced through the Zungeru road in Sabon Gari area where unprecedented supporters stood side by side and shouted different slogans at him, such as ” Nigeria sai Baba Buhari”, “Nigeria sai mai gaskiya.”, among other slogans.

From Zungeru, the convoy drove straight to state road where the former Head of State commissioned the multi billion naira flyover built by the state governor.

Our reporters observed that the trip was at a snail pace due to overcrowded atmosphere on the roads as vehicular movements were forced to halt on the roads leading to the state road.

Businesses in the commercial city were also brought to a halt for several hours as marketers had to close their shops to catch the glimpse of their hero.

After commissioning the flyover, Buhari and his convoy proceeded to the Emir of Kano’s palace, Muhammadu Sunusi II, but the presidential candidate found it impossible to alight from the vehicle due to the huge crowd that thronged the palace to cheer him.

Our reporters observed that the emir and Buhari were forced to wave at each other due to the crowd and Buhari proceeded to Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar mata area of Municipal Local Government area where the event took place.

There was an unprecedented crowd at the venue as millions of supporters besieged the stadium to witness the occasion.

The former Head of State arrived the venue at about 3:30pm and seemed astonished by the large crowd where he was received by a song “Baba Oyoyo”.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, Buhari urged Nigerians to make sure they get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) and massively vote for the APC only in the next month’s general elections, adding that the people must ensure they vote and secure their votes in order to bring about the desired change.

He said “I urge you to get your PVC by voting rightly and to also secure your votes. Without that, our mission of accomplishing a change that we are clamouring for may not be achieved. If you don’t vote, you cannot bring about the change that we are anticipating. So your PVC should be your weapon of change that we flush out the PDP in the February elections.”

“I also call on you to vote for APC only”, he added

Earlier in his address, the state governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, said he is optimistic that Buhari would be sworn in on May 29, adding that the time has come for Nigerians to embrace the right party that would salvage them from the present hardship.

BSO alleges plot to assassinate Buhari

And following the advertorial in some national dailies, depicting General Muhammadu Buhari as facing an imminent death, the Buhari Support Group (BSO), has alleged that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is planning to assassinate Buhari before or while in office.

A statement issued by its director of media and information, Dr. Chinda Maduekwe, said “we are convinced that this advertorial is a Freudian slip and Mr. Ayo Fayose is definitely exposing their plans to assassinate General Muhammadu Buhari before or while in office as it is crystal clear that Nigerians are determined to elect General Buhari as their President come February, 14, 2015.

“We hereby call on Nigerians to rise in unison against this obvious threat to life of General Muhammadu Buhari by condemning the intentions of Mr Ayodele Fayose and PDP as we are particularly worried by the antecedents of Mr Ayodele Fayose from Ekiti State and his associate from Osun State as they are yet to absolve themselves of numerous criminal charges and murder cases in courts.”

BSO said the campaign of calumny directed against its principal was taken over board. “We may recall that recently all presidential candidates with their respective party leadership attended a seminar here in Abuja for a sensitization workshop with the theme: “2015 General Elections: Sensitization workshop on Non-Violence”. The issues discussed were on how to conduct a violent free poll ahead of the February 2015 elections in Nigeria.

“We are surprised that same day General Buhari directed training commencement of Buhari Support Organizations (BSO) State Coordinators on conducting a Violence –Free Polls based on the Abuja Accord Template, the PDP leadership had to place some advertorial on national dailies depicting General Muhammadu as one facing an imminent death and advising voters not to vote for someone who will soon die.

“This current PDP action is a clear breach of the Abuja accord and people cannot be blamed if any challenge is thrown up following these insensitive advertorial depicting eminent personalities from North West geopolitical zone of the country as ones destined to die.

“We are disturbed to say the least about the long drawn orchestrated negative pronouncement on the ill health of GMB. We smell a rat here considering what happened to a sitting Attorney – General of the Federation a couple of years ago. We can no longer keep quiet and we hereby ask the DSS to please invite people behind these false advertorial to unmask the rational driving such divisive advert as such can plunge the nation into a dark allay” BSO stated.

Meanwhile, the PDP also explained the position of the president over the issue as unpalatable and an abuse on the person of the General Muhammadu Buhari.

In the advert published in some national dailies on Monday, Fayose had stated, “Nigerians Be Warned! I have set before thee Life and Death.

Therefore choose life that both thee and thy seek may live” will thou allow history to repeat itself? Enough of state burials, Nigerians vote wisely, vote Goodluck Jonathan; northern presidency should wait till 2019″, declared Ayo Fayose.

The advert which also placed a question mark sign against General Buhari’s picture suggesting a warning that he may be the next northern president to die while serving as other northern past heads of state that include General Murtala Muhammed, General Sani Abacha and President Umar Musa Yar’adua have suffered similar fate.

Jonathan disowns Fayose’s death wish

Reacting to the advert while fielding questions from journalists yesterday in Abuja, the Director of Media and Publicity of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, said that Fayose’s position does not represent the opinion of President Goodluck Jonathan or the campaign organisation.

“Governor Ayo Fayose is a distinguished leader of our party. A democratically elected governor and someone we have immense respect and affection for and he released this advert in his own name. That represents his own personal opinion which he is entitled to.

“What I can tell you on our part as the Presidential campaign organisation is that it does not represent the opinion of the Presidential Campaign Organisation or indeed the President, it is his opinion, which he is entitled to and he is somebody that we have immense respect for, he is a leading member of the party, I have spoken with him and we respect him but for anybody to suggest that this is the position of the presidential campaign organisation or President Goodluck Jonathan, that will be most unfair” he stated.

Fani-Kayode said that the party will continue to raise question on the issue of Buhari’s health.
