Buhari, Gov. Abubakar, others mourn ex-Kano gov, Abdullahi

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent condolences to the government and people of Jigawa State over the loss of former Governor of Kano State, Air Vice Marshal Hamza Abdullahi.
According to a statement made available to newsmen yesterday by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, the President commiserated with family, friends and Hadejiya community members of the former governor, who also served the country as Minister of Works and Housing, and Minister of Federal Capital Territory.
The President believed the sacrifices and good heartedness of the former governor will always be remembered, most remarkably in revitalizing the Expanded Programme of Immunization for women and children in Kano, and working assiduously to ensure successful movement of the nation’s capital city from Lagos to Abuja.
As a military officer, the President affirmed that Abdullahi was disciplined, focused and fully committed to the unity and progress of Nigeria.
Buhari prayed that God will comfort his family and grant him eternal rest.
Also yesterday, Jigawa state Governor, Alhaji Muhammed Badaru Abubakar expressed shock over the death of the ex-governor.
Abubakar said the state and the country has lost a rare statesman.
In a statement issued and signed by the Special Assistant to the Jigawa governor, Mallam Bello Zaki said that, “the deceased was a complete gentleman and elder statesman that was instrumental to the emergence of the old Kano state.”
The ex -military governor of old Kano state under President Muhammad Buhari’s military regime and Minister of Works under President Ibrahim Babangida regime, Rtd. Air Vice Marshal Hamza Abdullahi died at 74.
The Hadejia emirate through its spokesperson, Muhammad Garba Talaki confirmed the death yesterday, saying that the ex-governor died at a German hospital after suffering from a brief illness.
Hamza Abdullahi who hails from Hadejia in Jigawa State was born 2nd March 1945.
He also served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
