The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander in Chief of the Armed forces, Muhammadu Buhari has been commended over the constant support to the Nigerian Navy.
The commendation was given by the Chief of Naval staff, Vice Admiral Ibok – Ete Ibas at the occasion of the commissioning of projects done by the Nigerian Navy, Logistic Command, Oghara.
The Chief of Naval staff who was the special guest of honour was represented by the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command Lagos, Rear Admiral Oladele Daji.
The special guest of honour applauded the president for constantly supporting the Navy especially in the areas of fleet renewal which according to him, had led to the acquisition of several platforms for the Navy.
He assured Mr President and Nigerians that the Nigerian Navy would continue to discharged its statutory roles of defending the nation and protecting her maritime- based resources in a responsive and responsible manner.
The naval boss urged beneficiaries of the projects commissioned to imbibe the culture of maintenance to avoid wasting the resources vested on the projects.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Logistics Command Oghara, Rear Admiral Salaima Lassa, who was the chief host of the event, said that in actualizing the mandate of the logistics command, programmes / efforts that would promote the basic physical and mental wellbeing of personnel had to be executed hence the completion of projects commissioned at the Nigerian Navy Barracks Oghara.
The FOC said the Barracks which was taken over from the Delta state government in 2008, was littered with an uncompleted building including dirt roads with no drainages.
The Rear Admiral said within the last six months with the intervention and support from the Chief of Naval Staff , the story changed as numerous projects which includes 1,722m x 11m asphalted road network, 1,212m of constructed trapezoidal drainage, completed and fully furnished cluster of 3 blocks of 4 flats x one bedroom accommodations on a storey building for junior officers, a fully furnished gymnasium with a fully furnished one bedroom flats, the house for the Chief Boatswains mate among others was to be commissioned.
Lassa noted that the completed houses would reduce accommodation deficit within the Barracks while the gymnasium was expected to encouraged regular excises for longevity of fitness and the well being of personnel.
Also speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the former FOC of the logistic command Oghara, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ofik who was overwhelmed said he was very excited as the projects he started has been built upon and completed even as new ones was also invented saying his dreams came through.
He appreciated Mr President, Chief of Naval staff for their supports, he also appreciated the efforts of the FOC Nigerian Navy, logistic command Oghara, Rear Admiral Lassa in achieving the dream.
