Tragedy in Yan soro of Kademi town in Gaya Local Government when a bridegroom, who got married two weeks ago died alongside three others after eating dinner cooked by the bride.

The bridegroom, simply identified as Umar, was reported to have asked for the food after he returned home from work and the bride, Nafisah who had already cooked the traditional food called danwake, gave him the food as he requested.

The report added that when Nafisah gave the food to the bridegroom he told her that he would go out to eat with his friends as he used to do, but she asked him not to go out but he insisted and went on to eat alongside his friends outside.

The report further stated that as soon as they finished eating the danwake, some of them, including Umar, started vomiting and crying of stomach ache. Two of them died instantly, while Umar and the other guy died at the hospital.

Speaking, the bridegroom’s brother, Danlami Abubakar, said “I was baffled with the incident and there was no indication that the Nafisah is not in love with Umar because the marriage was conducted peacefully.” He said.

“All those that that ate the food have been affected. It is just a fate. May Allah rest their soul in peace”, he prayed.

A survivor of the incident, Abdul salamRabiu, said” when we came to eat the food, we noticed some dark powder in the food. Some said it is Onga seasoning while some said it is just spice flavour and so we continued eating. As soon as we finished eating we all started vomiting. The food tasted like potassium. I was lucky to have survived’’, he said.

When contacted, Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Musa Majiya, confirmed the incident and said investigation is going on and that thereafter, the state commissioner of police would summon the bride.
