Former National Planning Minister, Sanusi Daggash, yesterday announced that Alhaji Gambo Lawal has emerged the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Borno.
Daggash, who addressed State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Aso Villa, said he led the party leaders from the state to the seat of power to deliberate on how to arrive at a consensus on whom to adopt as the party’s consensus candidate in the state.
According to him, since there was no time for them to organize the party’s primary in the state considering the tense political situation, they resolved to adopt the consensus option in the spirit of the PDP’s family affair.
The former minister gave the assurance that the PDP would defeat the incumbent governor of the state, Alhaji Kashim Shettima of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gambo Lawal was once an aspirant to the position of the PDP National Chairman and also a former National Chairman of the defunct Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM) during the Abacha era.
Before then, he played a prominent role in National Conference of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria in the early 90s.
